It is no longer debatable that single-use objects are a serious problem that we have not yet managed to deal with. Recycling and reuse attempt to provide an answer, but unfortunately, due to the nature of the materials used to make these products, the responses remain insufficient in solving the issue. In this series, Bordalo II uses some of these familiar objects, such as tyres, cigarette butts, protective masks, cans, and plastic bottles. Thus enumerated, they represent merely one class of “things”, but presented in repetition in an organised whole they become a fundamental part of that whole, a pixel in that image.
When we come closer we easily distinguish each element appearing before us, but if we move away, the exhaustive and organised repetition of that element causes something new to emerge.
Each piece addresses a different environmental issue, either through the material used or the image formed.
