ROCK

The history of civilisations is one of creation and construction, but also of destruction, reconstruction and further destruction, in a perpetual cycle that, unlike the cycles of nature, leaves a trail of waste in its wake.

Stone has always been a fundamental element in this history, one of the most essential pillars not only for its most utilitarian function, but also for its importance in artistic creation.

However, as cities grew so did the demand for this raw material for construction, accelerated by technological developments that opened the door to unbridled and unregulated extraction. This has become a real problem, due to the negative impact it has on ecosystems, flora and fauna, as well as the landscape and local populations. Today, stone gives rise to cities, and with them a world of waste.

These stone animals are creations made from the stone left behind, waste so rich in textures and colours, but which is merely seen as the offcuts from large blocks and which would otherwise be discarded by industry, abandoned somewhere it does not belong. And so the stone becomes “trash”.
